Decommisioning

Decommisioning

Decommissioning of oil and gas infrastructure will increase over the next decades. An increasing number of offshore oil and gas facilities are nearing the end of their design life or economic operation.

At the same time the Netherlands is facing an immense challenge to meet the targets to reduce our CO2 footprint and to make the transition towards a sustainable energy system. In some cases there may be opportunities to re-use existing infrastructure to help new renewable industries.

Decommissioning typically takes several years of careful planning before execution starts. It takes many steps involving different stakeholders.

As vessel agency and provider of port logistics, combined with our flexibility in adhoc helicopter services, DHSS assists the major contractors during their removal projects. Our experience and network in the oil & gas market as well as in the renewable industry is beneficial for the opportunities which may arise at some offshore locations for re-using the existing infrastructure with the developments in the offshore wind.
